Located
30km from the capital city of Italy – Rome, Fiumicino is one of the
largest airports in Europe and the largest in Italy. It occupies
29km2
and its name comes from the most popular figure of the Renaissance.
The airport started operating in 1961 and has been modernized and
extended several times since then. Currently, it can handle 30
landing/taking off operations in an hour. During bad weather
conditions such as fog, the airport operates just 10 landing/taking
off procedures an hour.
This is an airport where passengers will find
anything they need while waiting for their flight. There are multiple
gastronomy venues and stores. There is also a laundry room, travel
agency and currency exchange office. Moreover, the airport provides
Internet and Wi-Fi access. A car park for 4000 cars is located
nearby. The connection from the airport to the center of Rome is very
convenient. There are a couple of options you can choose from: using
the A91 highway – by car, bus or taxi. You can also go for a local
train or Leonardo Express, departing from a platform next to the
airport.
