Amsterdam
– Schiphol Airport occupies 2787 ha and is the largest airport in
Holland, the fourth largest in Europe. It is located on a plain which
emerged after the bay was dried off. In the past, ships intended for
being destroyed were stocked here – that’s where the name comes
from. “Schip" means a ship in Dutch, and “hol" means a hole.
It is the oldest international airport in the world – it was built
in 1917. Currently, there are 6 runways, which are marked with
directions and proper nouns. Also, there is one terminal divided into
three sections (halls). Just like at any major airport in Europe, it
offers a wide array of amenities, services and facilities that will
meet the expectations of the most demanding passengers. So, there are
resting spots either for adults or children (who can also use a
playground). Moreover, at the terminal, there are shops, SPA,
library, casinos, gastronomy venues, banks, currency exchange
offices, ATMs, conference rooms and hotels.
