The airport is located 13 km from the center of Madrid. It occupies 3050 ha. It started operating in 1928. Currently, it serves around 50 million passengers a year (it is capable of checking in 70 million passengers a year). The airport is simultaneously the biggest employer not only in Madrid but also in the entire region. It should be added that terminal T4 is the largest terminal in the world – it occupies 760 000m2.

Throughout four terminals, the passengers will find a drug store, first aid station, nursery and playgrounds. Some peace and quiet can be found in the chapels in Terminals 1,2 and 4. Further travels will be easier because of travel agencies and trip operators in the arrival halls. 20 info point are located throughout the entire airport. If a traveler can’t find the info they are looking for, they can ask one of over a hundred airport personnel. Madrid-Barajas is adjusted to host all kinds of meetings and conferences – there are seven perfectly equipped conference rooms for that.
